The leading Chateau in St-Estèphe, Bordeaux. A 2ème Cru Classé, loved for not only its oriental inspired monument. Prats’ long continued involvement even after their sale in 98, has ensured their consistent style.

Edited Jean-Guillaume Prats announced his leave just two weeks after this post, and Aymeric de Gironde was named his successor (21 Nov 2012).

Cos has 70 ha. of vineyards consisting of 58% Cabernet, 38% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The big quantity of Merlot is though not reflected in the wines, which are powerful and concentrated even in poor vintages.

Cos is situated in the southern part of the St-Estèphe Appellation, on the border to Pauillac, and their vineyards are superbly laid out just north of Lafite.

Cos d’Estournel gives much punch even in two poor years as 98’ and 97’, with the 98’ showing intense nose of pencil lead. Although they both have peaked, they still give away generous taste and enjoyment.
